Inverted Pyramid

By sberry, 9 January, 2026

A huge step in the right direction from RFK jr. and the HHS!

A few days ago, the "new food pyramid" dropped.

It is (intentionally, I guess) upsidedown, and focuses on real food, with emphasis on protein and animal-based foods. This is exciting! It is a huge reversal from the last one in which eggs were said to be less healthy than Cheerios...

While there are things I wish were mentioned at realfood.gov, such as soaking of grains, fermentation of vegetables, oil temperature limits, and the importance of sourcing local, I am very grateful for the work the MAHA movement is achieving. It has been a long time since I've seen meaningful recommendations from a .gov site.

I sincerely hope and pray that people won't just reject this as "Trump nonsense," but will investigate. Anyone should look at the "plate" of food and find it wholesome and attractive. It is in our nature to do so.

If you are reading this, and are curious about the idea of real food, I recommend checking out the Weston A. Price foundation, as their work is foundational in this space. As someone recently told me, if it wasn't eaten 100 years ago (getting on to 150 now, to be fair), you shouldn't eat it.

One additional comment. Eating this was is expensive. If you struggle with grocery budgets, it is still possible. Focus on organ meats and good locally sourced eggs. Soak legumes and grains and make them a higher percentage of the diet. Grow what vegetables you can. Buy lots of fresh vegetables in season and ferment them. Buy grains and legumes in bulk. It is possible to eat healthily on a tight budget. Even if you can't afford organic, it is better to eat poor quality meats than none at all.
