I don't think we spend enough time considering what a significant thing it was that Jesus was God made flesh.
We tend of think of Jesus as a "hippy carpenter with a message of peace."
But, Jesus says if you see Him, you see the Father. He says that He reveals the Father to those He chooses.
This is literal God. YAWEH. This is the God that even Moses (who God said he talks to face to face like a friend) couldn't bear to see His face, but had to be hidden as He went by. After seeing a reflection of God on the mountain, Moses glowed like a lightbulb for a long period after. Elijah covered his ears when he heard God whisper!
Whenever a Divine messenger, an Angel acting with the direct authority and voice of God comes to man, they tremble, they fall, they try to worship. In other words, when a created being, with a form like that of Man, comes from highest Heaven, humans think them worthy of worship.
Yet, the literal FULLNESS of God was wrapped in This Mortal Coil, and send to Earth. And, the Bible says "He was not remarkable to look on." That should just blow our minds. How did God do that? Before that, He literally couldn't make himself small enough to not wipe out our frail human forms, yet He took the fullness of Himself and took of human form, and wasn't even that noteworthy. People didn't see Him and want to worship (unless the Spirit led them to it). People didn't shake in terror when He came by. They saw Him as merely a prophet.
This is the Miracle of the Incarnation. That Jesus become so fully like us that we could bear it. And, yet, lost none of His God status, so that those who saw Him saw God. For the first time, unveiled. No intermediary, no messenger, no reflection. Just God.
And, when He saw Lazarus die, he wept. The Bible says that Jesus grew in wisdom and understanding. But, God is all-knowing, so what gives? Jesus was learning experientially. He was understanding as a human, rather than as God. He saw death from a temporal perspective, and He saw how it effected his friends. But, most incredibly, it effected Him too.
People say that the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament are different, but they aren't! God used messengers (both of healing and of harming) to work His will in the time of the Law and Prophets. He is LORD of Hosts, and he commands His hosts to do His will. Not anymore! There is no veil between us. There is no non-divine intercessor.
There is only Christ, and him crucified. There is only the Helper, the God-man, the Savior. Our Master, our Brother, our Friend.
Don't forget that the same Jesus that will not snuff out a smoldering wick will also bring death and judgement on the world. No mediator, no angelic messenger. Because He is like us, yet without sin; He is worthy of that authority.
